Takt Alsaholn Faubrey (タクト=アルサホルン=フォブレイ Takuto Arusahorun Foburei?) is one of the main antagonists in The Rising of the Shield Hero.

Appearance[]

Takt is described by Naofumi as having a well built and handsome face. His hair is gold, and his eyes are blue. He looks like a stereotypical westerner, closely resembling the old Motoyasu.

His clothing consists of a rough jacket and pants which is unusual for the surrounding culture. Under his crown is a bandana, which some say does not suit him. His presence reminds Naofumi of Kyo Ethnina.[1]

Personality[]

As observed by Naofumi, Takt displays the negative personality traits of Itsuki, Ren and Motayasu had when first summoned, but much worse in those areas.

Similar to Ren and Itsuki, due to being praised as a genius all of his life, Takt is immensely pompous and egocentric: he possesses a glaring god-complex. He believes himself to be superior to anybody, assuming that making any mistake for him is impossible. He refuses to admit any fault in his actions or logic, and this combined with his hubris leads him to making extremely damaging decisions that ultimately cause mass destruction. The most notable example of this is when the Legendary Heroes do not praise him for his power, he chooses to seize their powers for himself and 'save' the world by conquering it to demonstrate his might as the 'one true' hero.[1]

Despite his massive ego and belief that he was incredible and without fault in battle, he exhibits extremely naïve and childish behavior. His idiocy and lack of genuine wisdom in matters of war are so poor to the point that King Aultcray, famed as the Wisest King of Wisdom, deems him to be nothing short of a moron, noticing his constant failures in his ideas.[2] His naiveté and lack of understanding of the implications of war is further seen in his hypocrisy. After killing thousands of civilians, he is outraged when one of his companions is killed, but he is incapable and uninterested in understanding the reason for her death.

Additionally, he displays a weakness for women similar to Motoyasu's sexual urges, but on more extreme and depraved level. He commands his companions to kill all men and capture the women for him.[2] He also 'frees' women whom he deems to be brainwashed to join his harem, killing their families if they use any resistance.[3] He also chooses his alchemist based on which woman is the most infatuated with him.[4]

Background[]

Takt was one of the individuals selected from another world to be reincarnated in Raphtalia's World. Born into a royal family, he was provided with unique powers by the Army of the Waves that allowed him to excel. Even as a young child, he performed many notable feats:

  • At three, he mastered the art of magic.
  • At five, he reformed the paper-making process which revived the book-making industry.
  • At seven, he became an expert on alchemy and mechanical magic studies.

He eventually entered Faubley's finest academy, where he developed a romantic relationship with Malty S Melromarc, and graduated at the top of his class. He then left to be an adventurer, where he quickly made his name as an accomplished fighter. At one point, he won the martial arts tournament in Shieldfreeden. Just before a Wave hit, he was "selected" as the Hero of the Whip.

Since becoming an adventurer, he began to research transportation. Taking an airplane design left by past Heroes, he managed to create a method of flight without using Dragons, Gryphons, or any Magic.[5]

His party quickly defeated the Kirin Guardian Beast, which was released immediately after the Phoenix was killed.[6]

Trivia[]

  • Itsuki hypothesizes that Takt has the innate power to steal other people's abilities[3]
