The Rebuilding Arc Part 1 is the thirteenth arc in the Light Novel and the twelfth arc in the Web Novel of The Rising of the Shield Hero.
Synopsis[]
After Naofumi's great contribution to stopping the Spirit Tortoise he is awarded land within Melromarc. Now it is time for Naofumi to get residents for his new land.
Summary[]
Naofumi and his party arrive back to their world from Glass' World. They release the Spirit Tortoise energy which increases the time until the next wave by a few months. As a reward for helping with the Spirit Tortoise catastrophe, Naofumi decides to become the lord of the territory which contains Raphtalia's Village. Naofumi asks the Slave Trader to obtain as many slaves that used to live in this territory as he can.
Heading to the village, Naofumi finds that no progress has been done in the rebuilding efforts despite it being months since the wave which destroyed it. It turns out that Eclair, the governor of this territory would rather train then work on rebuilding efforts. He asks Melty to help assist in properly governing the area. Naofumi then uses his BioPlant to help get food for the village and employs various monsters to help with the labour. He divides tasks among the villagers to maintain the village and generate revenue. Soon after, the Slave Trader arrives and explains that since the "Shield Hero" is attempting to obtain all of the original Lurolona villagers, the slave market for them has gone incredibly expensive. He then recommends Naofumi to go the Zeltoble where most of the slaves are apparently kept. The village is also attacked by slave hunters who want to obtain their own Lurolona slaves.
Naofumi eventually goes to Zeltoble and finds a few of his business partners like the Accessory Merchant. He is told that an efficient way to generate large sums of money is to fight in the coliseum battles. Naofumi and his party agree to become part of the team battles with Naofumi's business partners supporting him. Their team is incredibly successful and they eventually are paired to fight against "Nadia" - a favourite among the coliseum patrons. Naofumi's team has an incredibly difficult fight with Sadeena until Raphtalia recognizes her as the "big sister" of her original village - Sadeena. When Sadeena finds out that she is fighting against Raphtalia, she agrees to fake her defeat.
Unfortunately, the coliseum patrons are incredibly unhappy with Sadeena's defeat and the coliseum arranges an immediate second fight against their top fighter - Murder Pierrot. However, together they are able to defeat this difficult foe. With the Accessory Deal and Slave trader's backing, they are able to confront the crooked businessman arranging the fights and have Sadeena's slave crest removed. It is also revealed that while Naofumi and his team were trying to buy Lurolona slaves, Sadeena was trying to do the same. Naofumi then transport all of them back to their home village.
After returning the villagers back to their village, Naofumi peruses the Zeltoble Slave Trader's stock. He finds a deathly sick Hakuko demi-human and her brother. He decides to buy the two slaves named Fohl and Atla and treat Atla's illness. Over time, Atla's illness (which seemed to have no cure for the two siblings) slowly started to fade away. Both Fohl and Atla reaffirmed they loyalty to Naofumi. He then takes them to Castle Town in order to reset their levels and they come across Trash who has a bizarre reaction upon seeing them. Apparently, these two demi-humans are the children of his long-lost sister and the son of his bitter enemy. Around this point Murder Pierrot arrives in Naofumi's village but Naofumi turns her away. Queen Melromarc also asks Naofumi to capture Motoyasu who has run amok.
