Raphtalia's father was a former heir to the Q'ten Lo throne. He eloped with his wife to a demi-human territory within Melromarc. Later, he sacrificed his life to save his daughter, Raphtalia.
Appearance[]
Not much description has been given to Raphtalia's father's appearance, but he is a Tanuki demi-human with light-brown hair and green eyes (as seen in a flashback in Episode 50).
Personality[]
As the next in line Heavenly Emperor of Q'ten Lo, Sadeena describes Raphtalia's father as kind and considerate to others. He had a sense of responsibility and credibility which drew people to him.
Abilities[]
Raphtalia's father is a talented artist and has incredibly neat writing. Even Naofumi, who isn't proficient in the demi-human language, could read his writing.[1] He is also capable of casting light magic:
- First Holy「ファスト・ホーリー Fasuto Hoorii」
Creates a sparkling ball of magical light which destroys dark enemies.[2]
Background[]
Raphtalia's father was born into the royal family of the Heavenly Emperor in Q'ten Lo. However, despite being in line for the throne he didn't desire it and fled the country while the rest of the family was fighting violently for the throne. He and his nephew ended being the only members of the main royal family which survived.
While Raphtalia's father was growing up in Q'ten Lo, he was apparently quite a delinquent. However, as he grew up he became very kind and considerate compared to the rest of his family. He was the first person to care for Sadeena while she was the Water Dragon Miko priestess and he treated he like an actually person when everyone else saw her as a tool. During this time he started courting Raphtalia's mother despite her being essentially a maid originating from a branch family. He eventually married Raphtalia's mother and then two fled Q'ten Lo with Sadeena.
Chronology[]
Volume 1[]
Raphtalia is plagued by nightmares of both of her parents. After warming up to Naofumi, she talks about them. She and her parents used to live peacefully in Lurolona Village until the first wave came. Her kind parents along with the village could not fight the monsters. They decided to sacrifice themselves and push Raphtalia off a cliff into water and safety. Later Raphtalia came back to the cliff and saw blood and flesh on the ground. She then realized that her father and mother were both dead.
Volume 12[]
Sadeena reveals to Naofumi and Raphtalia that both of her parents used to live in Q'ten Lo. Her father was royalty. One day her father and mother eloped and then escaped Q'ten Lo with Sadeena when they didn't like the direction the country was heading.
Volume 14[]
After finding that her sister is now the enemy in Q'ten Lo, Sadeena gives more backstory into Raphtalia's parents. It turns out that Raphtalia's father was next in line to be the Heavenly Emperor of Q'ten Lo. Not wanting to be part of the conflict over the throne, he decided to flee with Raphtalia's mother and Sadeena. Eventually, they landed in Melromarc.
Volume 14.5[]
Bored in the Q'ten Lo Castle, Naofumi and Raphtalia decide to investigate Raphtalia's Father's room. While there, they find a map of the castle with an "X" marked out. This leads them on a huge treasure hunt which eventually leads the group to where Raphtalia's parents used to rendezvous and meet up. There, they find a picture crystal of Raphtalia's parents.

Sadeena[]

He was genuinely interested in Sadeena and what she did and apologized for what she was forced to do as the Water Dragon Miko priestess. Sadeena loved him platonically. When Raphtalia's parents decided to escape Q'ten Lo, Sadeena decided to protect them on their journey. They taught her many things along the way and acted like her proper parents.
