Appearance[]

Makina was a female demi-human who claimed to be getting too old to maintain her "youthful beauty".[1] After her death, her soul took on the form of a giant mass of malevolent shadows.

Personality[]

Makina's personality was extremely similar to that of Malty S Melromarc to the point where Naofumi believed he could have mistaken her for Malty had the timeline matched up.[2] Makina repeatedly proved herself to be both highly treacherous and manipulative as well as spoiled and entitled.

Makina did not care about anyone else but herself as everything she did was to satisfy her own greed. She looked down on others and arrogantly believed herself to be invincible, but she learned the hard way that this was not true. Makina was also shown to be heartless and psychopathic as she coldheartedly ordered the deaths of several innocent people and children, simply for getting in her way or for defying her.

Her obsession to keep her position and power led her to make the biggest mistake of all, by ordering her spies to attack Raphtalia if she wore her Miko outfit. But due to this, Naofumi and Raphtalia retaliated and put a stop to her evil machinations once and for all.

Abilities[]

Makina was extremely knowledgeable in matters concerning souls. She was able to take possession over an individual's body by boring a hole through their soul without killing them.

Chronology[]

Makina was one of the chief conspirators of the plot to force the rightful prince of Q'ten Lo, Raphtalia's father, out of the country and installed a puppet ruler in his place in the form of an infantile Ruftmilia and would rule through him for the next decade slowly driving the country to ruin in order to satisfy her own whims. She destroyed historical documents and move the capital away from traditional ground. She also befriended and trained Shildina in the ways of the oracle, using the chance to bore a hole through the priestess' very soul in a plot to take over her body for herself once hers has worn out sufficiently.

Paranoid about the return of the rightful heirs of the country she had a group of Shadows assigned to watch Raphtalia's family her entire life and had them do nothing when her village was destroyed, her family killed, and she herself enslaved.

Light Novel Volume 14[]

Makina only ever appears after her death at the hands of the spirit of the former Heavenly Empress and Seven Star Hammer Hero through the use of Shildina and is subsequently drawn and quartered through the Legendary Weapons Soul Eater forms.

Relationships[]

Q'ten Lo[]

  • Ruftmilia: Makina raised the child Heavenly Emperor to be a pawn through which she could control the country, and although he idolized his adoptive mother she never saw him as anything more than a convenient pawn.
  • Shildina: Yet another young child raised as a pawn by the psychotic adviser to idolized her, in this case with the intention of taking her body for her own one day.

Lurolona Village[]

  • Naofumi Iwatani: Naofumi hates Makina passionately, blaming her as a massive source of pain and suffering in the life of Raphtalia and would go so far as to make unflattering comparisons with a woman that he personally calls Bitch. Likewise, Makina views Naofumi as a thorn in her side demolishing her power base and serving as one of the figureheads in the invasion and subsequent revolution into her country.
  • Raphtalia: Makina also despises Raphtalia since she is a legitimate threat to her power. For most of Raphtalia's life, Makina kept tabs on her through her shadows and didn't act until Raphtalia put on a Miko outfit and unintentionally claimed intention for the throne. Even though Raphtalia had no knowledge of Q'ten Lo custom, Makina saw it as a threat and ordered Raphtalia's assassination. On the other hand, Raphtalia had no idea who Makina was until she visited her homeland to stop the stream of assassination attempts.

Trivia[]

  • It was hinted that Makina may have been responsible for causing the first wave to appear at Raphtalia's village: to eliminate Raphtalia's Father who was both a legitimate and competent leader.[3]
  • Ironically, Makina was responsible for her own downfall and eventual demise as when she tried to get rid of Raphtalia and her parents, she partially succeeded as her parents were killed during the first wave. But her ignorance in letting Raphtalia live proved to be a fatal mistake as she ended up being becoming an ally of the hero her country worshipped: The Shield Hero. As a result Raphtalia ended up becoming a hero herself, the Katana Hero and she proceeded to use her newfound power to take Makina down once and for all.
  • Interestingly, Makina shares her Japanese voice actress with Malty S Melromarc (Myne/Bitch) who is exactly like her.
  • Makina also shares her English voice actress with Rishia Ivyred.
