The Legendary Sword is one of four Legendary Weapons within Raphtalia's World. The current wielder is Ren Amaki.
Overview[]
The Legendary Sword, also known as the Sword Spirit of the Legendary Weapon. The spirit is from another world prior to being summoned to another world alongside with it's chosen Candidate, the Legendary Sword is one of four Legendary Weapons present in the world of which Naofumi currently resides in. The candidates of the weapon have been given the title of Sword Hero, whom they are generally addressed as so by the locals.
The current candidate of the Legendary Sword is Ren Amaki. He was selected by the Sword Spirit as a backup candidate, which meant that prior to being summoned he would have some serious characteristic problems, but had potential worthy of being a hero. Since he is a back up candidate, his reward will mostly be correcting his death in the his own world. The legendary sword gave up on summoning it's first choice, since most of the past summoned heroes were killed very early.
Each of the Legendary Weapons also has two primary vassal weapons that work in tangent with them. In the case of the Sword, its two primary vassals are the Vassal Gauntlet and the Vassal Axe.[1]
Power-up Method[]
As a Legendary Weapon, the Legendary Sword has three power-up methods. As of Volume 19, all of its power-up methods are known.
- Mastery [熟練度 Jukuren-do (lit. Proficiency)]: Using the same weapon more frequently will improve its stats up until it is fully mastered at a Mastery Level of 100.
- Energy Transfer [エネルギー付与 Enerugī Fuyo (lit. Energy Assignment)]: When you have gained mastery in using a weapon, you can reset its mastery level and release the amount of energy you had invested in it. This amount is added to a 'pool' filled with energy from other mastery level resets, which can be used on any weapon form. Using this energy on a Weapon form, even the same weapon form the energy came from, can "Awaken" it if given enough to do so, which increases its stats and unlocks new abilities. Finally, any items that you had absorbed into the weapon could also be turned into energy.
- Rarity Up [レアリティ増加 Reariti Zōka (lit. Rarity Increase)]: By imbuing a weapon with energy gained from resetting mastery levels, you can increase its rarity level and the weapon’s abilities. A weapon's rarity can be repeatedly increased starting at common (C), then uncommon (UC), and so on, though each rarity increase has a chance for failure. The list of known rarities are Common (C), Uncommon (UC), Rare (R), Super Rare (SR), Super Rare+ (SR+), Legendary Rare (LR), and Artifact (AT).[2]

Guillotine | Chains wrap around the target's body and turn into barbed wire piercing into the target's skin. This skill has incredible power and is nearly unstoppable. | Sword of Greed II |
Maneater | A modification of Shooting Star Sword that unleashes a slash of black stars which covers a large area. | Sword of Greed III |
Gold Rebellion | This skill summons a mass of golden treasures in the air which slowly assembles to become a sinister and gaudy sculpture of gold. The effects of this skill are unknown. | Sword of Greed III |
Strong Decline | This skill causes the user to amass sinister light which then travels into the ground. As it does so, the ground begins to shake and split open beneath the target's feet. Fangs grow from the fractures and also try to bite the target. This skill also degrades the surrounding area as the ground erupts in geysers of grey, foul-smelling liquid while mould and mushrooms start the blood. The rotting sea starts to birth monstrous flies that head towards the target. | Sword of Greed and Gluttony III |

Dragon Wipe Sword | The sword covers itself in a purple energy which converts the user's skills and weapon so that they will be more effective against dragons. | Ascalon |
Unnamed Interrupt Spell Skill | Allows the user to interrupt the target's casting of magic. | Ancient Sword |

Unnamed Dual Wielding Skill | Summons a second sword which can hold a different form than the first. | ? |
Wind Cutter Whistle | Causes swinging the sword to cause various sounds. It is likely that if the user is skilled with music, they can create Performance Magic through this skill. | Heavenly Wind King Katana |
