Riyute Village (リユート村 Riyūto Mura?) or ambiguously translated as Lute Village is a location south-west of Castle Town of Melromarc.

Chronology[]

Volume 1[]

Though Naofumi didn't reveal himself, he was fairly treated by the people of the town before the wave. During the wave, Naofumi prioritized saving the villagers which many witness themselves. Seeing Naofumi fighting alone, the villagers aided him, by arming with whatever tools they can find, they followed his instructions precisely to fend of the wave monsters. It was during this time that Naofumi was purposefully targeted by fire magic cast by the knights dispatched from the castle but still managed to defend himself. After the other three heroes defeated the boss, the villagers personally thanked by bowing to Naofumi for saving them.

Thanks to Naofumi and Raphtalia, the number of casualties were greatly reduced. Despite their great work, their efforts would go largely unrewarded by Melromarc's King. Individually, many of villagers decided to show their gratitude through sharing what little they have left and through their personal connections. Some had friends and relatives in Melromarc's Castle Town such as the Medicinal Shop Owner and the Magic Shop Owner who decided to help however they could.

Volume 2[]

The public opinion in the castle town of Naofumi before the wave was slowly changing but after word spread of his deeds in Riyute, he became mildly more popular and many people wished to show him their gratitude.

The villagers of Riyute also warmly welcomed Naofumi's return and guided him the Chimera corpse though the other heroes and knight brigade had already harvested most of it. They even helped process and prepare monster material for him. A villager who could read and write provided Naofumi with a chart of Melromarc's alphabet so he could learn to read and the innkeeper let Naofumi and Raphtalia to stay at his inn free of charge. Though they couldn't provide much, they offered a cart for the newly hatched Filo for his service.

By the king's decree, Motoyasu was later appointed the governor of the village. However, the villagers and their previous lord were not pleased with it. Malty levied a toll of 50 silver coins for entering and exiting the village, amounting to a single Gold coin. Despite being aware of the value of currency, Motoyasu did not take issue with the proposed tax. As the villagers began to rally due to their displeasure, Malty started to use force to quell them, but Shadows appeared with a parchment which agitated Malty. Feeling threatened after reading the parchment, she demanded a race for lordship between Motoyasu and Naofumi, and despite having her entourage secretly aid Motoyasu, Naofumi with Filo emerged victorious freeing the village from Malty's grip. The village felt further indebted to Naofumi since the proposed tax would have cost them their livelihood and eventually the entire village.

The villagers, seeing Filo, asked Naofumi if he had any interest in becoming a traveling merchant. After he affirmed he had some interest they provided him with a commercial bill of passage which would allow him to avoid paying business taxes to many of the local territory lords. They hoped that this would help him earn a living and repair his reputation.

Geography[]

The location of the town is relatively close to the formation of the Second Wave. There is a nearby forest where Naofumi and his party ground monsters to level up. There is a swamp area to the west of the village and mountains to its north.

There is a coal mine in the outskirts which was abandoned. Before the wave, it was popular, but after the wave, it was filled with dangerous monsters. Even though they are somewhat isolated, they are still able to keep up with important happenings and rumors, like the Devil of the Shield's misdoings. Naofumi's reputation was well known to them.

Economy[]

Riyute is a small village with only one Inn around with a fee was one silver coin per night. The area is mostly surrounded by farmland. It is close to many trade routes which makes it a convenient location. Resources such as monsters, medical herbs, lumber, and ore can easily be collected in the area surrounding the town but merchants like monster material merchants (those who buy and sell monster materials) drop by only once every couple of days. The village lacks a medicinal shop, so it is necessary to sell cheaper medicine directly to the villagers in order to compete with the castle town's pharmacy imports.
